TSST 2020 – 2021
The TSST is designed to improve the maths, physics and MFL subject knowledge of non-specialist teachers by offering school-led teacher subject specialism training. The DfE is funding Teacher Subject Specialist Training free at the point of delivery in order to improve the subject knowledge of non-specialist teachers or returning teachers and to increase the number of hours taught in these subjects.
This programme includes:
• 5 face to face days focusing on 5 key areas: Number; Proportion and Reasoning; Algebra and Sequences; Geometry and Trigonometry; and Statistics and Straight Lines
• Subject Knowledge Audit tool to promote the accurate identification of gaps in knowledge and support the personalization of the taught programme
• Self-study: Ongoing self-assessment and online training using the Centre for Innovation in Maths Training Platform
• In-School Mentor for ongoing support
Who is it for?
This programme would suit non-specialist teachers who could potentially teach maths in addition to their main subject. It provides training to colleagues from primary schools wishing to upskill to teach GCSE Maths and provides support to teachers wishing to return to the profession through access to subject specialism training in a key curriculum area.
